ERS to launch underwriting academy in Swansea
Specialist motor insurer ERS will open an underwriting academy in its Swansea office.
Employees will be able to develop underwriting skills and knowledge without having to relocate to another part of the country.
Course takers will complete a mixture of on-the-job training and academic studies. They will undergo a training programme to become a fully qualified insurance underwriter, completing Chartered Insurance Institute qualifications in the process.
Ten candidates will be sought for the pilot phase of ERS’ Swansea underwriting academy. The opportunity will be open to internal and external candidates, who will be given the support of a technical mentor if selected.
They will also be given the opportunity to spend some time in London, where they will have the chance to familiarise themselves with Lloyd’s of London and the motor market.
Lauren Edwards, HR director at ERS, said: “The launch of the ERS Underwriting Academy in Swansea is very exciting news and represents the next natural step for the company to ensure that we can create highly-skilled roles here in Swansea and develop deep underwriting capability across all areas of our business.
“We now look forward to seeing the applications we get for these roles which are very unusual outside the city of London. Being an underwriter can be a tremendously challenging and rewarding profession, mixing the disciplines of business and a technical skillset. These roles offer a fantastic career opportunity for the right people.”
ERS, which is headquartered in London, has relocated a number of roles to Swansea since 2015 when it took on a new 33,000 square foot premises in the Welsh city.
