This is to manage the underwriting strategy and execution of Environmental Liability business with an emphasis on London market, European and global exposures.

Key accountabilities

Key duties:

  • Develop and implement strategy for International Environmental within UK, EU and global markets
  • Develop and maintain broker relationships and clients including overseas visits and travel, where necessary
  • Review, negotiate, accept or decline risks on behalf of the company in line with business plans
  • Ensure all business adheres to the company's underwriting standards and individual authority limits
  • Effectively and accurately use systems for data input, interrogation of data, report generation etc.
  • Develop and modify Policy Wordings, Clauses and Exclusions as circumstances require
  • Prepare/contribute to monthly, quarterly and ad hoc
  • management information
  • Represent the company on market associations and trade bodies
  • Recruit and train staff sufficient to achieve long-term growth and profitability objective
  • Manage team members effectively, undertaking mentoring and development of less experienced members of the team, and supporting colleagues and contributing in the delivery and achievement of the teams overall vision and objectives

  • Where applicable ensure company, market and client related documentation is issued (internally and externally) accurately and on time
  • Comply with external and internal regulatory and statutory policies, procedures and regulations
  • Operate as an effective team member by supporting colleagues and contributing in the delivery and achievement of the teams overall vision and objectives
  • Liaise with key business groups to establish, support and maintain solid business relationships and organisational effectiveness
  • To undertake any other duties of a similar nature that the company reasonably requests to be performed that are within the expertise and skills of the jobholder. These may be subject to periodic review and any updates and changes to be introduced after consultation with the person concerned

Skills & experience

  • ACII (preferable)
  • Significant experience from related environmental underwriting and / or broking experience (10+ years)
  • Bachelor's Degree level education or equivalent (preferable)
  • Experience with delegated underwriting authority helpful (MGU's/MGA's)
  • Technical competencies in environmental underwriting, risk analysis and assessment
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Competent negotiation, influencing and deal making skills
  • Numeracy, literacy, adaptability to change in a fluid commercial environment
  • Self-confidence / maturity, commercial acumen, strong team player
  • IT Skills Microsoft packages, Word, Excel, E-mail, Spreadsheets, Internet software database software
