Market leading Specialty Insurer currently looking to expand their legal team with the addition of a further Legal Counsel. Working within a small and busy in-house legal department going through an expansion period of the business, both in the UK and internationally. Their lawyers support a wide range of corporate and business activities, lending variety and challenge to the role.

The role


This role will offer growth in a generalist role, with the opportunity to support on a broad range of areas including corporate, commercial, regulatory, litigation and insurance related matters. You will be supported and encouraged in your ongoing development and training.

Key accountabilities

  • Reviewing, negotiating and agreeing commercial contracts, settlement agreements, confidentiality agreements and other insurance-related contracts
  • Supporting on mergers and acquisition activity
  • Supporting on corporate governance matters
  • Providing legal support and liaising with external lawyers including overseas
  • Assisting with dispute resolution for the company including litigation
  • Carrying out research and analysis of impact of UK and international legislative and regulatory developments
  • Supporting and advising underwriters and claims teams in relation to underwriting and distribution

Skills & experience

  • Be a qualified lawyer with legal experience in or advising the financial services industry preferably insurance
  • Be confident in advising and communicating with key stakeholders including senior executives, regulators, underwriters and claims teams
  • Have a demonstrable understanding of corporate law
  • Have an understanding of insurance and reinsurance law (preferable)
  • Have highly developed influencing skills
  • Be flexible and delivery focused as you will be working on a wide range of projects
  • Have strong organisational skills
