So what do you think you'll be doing in 2025?
A quick glance at ramblings of the internet experts and it looks as though we'll be sitting in our driverless cars whilst wearing smart jackets to go to a robotic supermarket to spend our bitcoin.
A scary thought indeed.
But these predictions don't always happen.
I for one, am still awaiting the daily use of hoverboards as promised in Robert Zemeckis classic 'Back to the Future' movie from 1985.
And that's all these things can really ever be, predictions.
Nobody really knows what the future holds, confirmed completely by the challenges faced in 2020 and beyond.
So when something arrives that can offer a degree of predictability, then for the future planners amongst us, it can provide a real sense of progression and comfort.
Take this insurance brokerage in the Cumbria region for example.
A rich history, loyal employees and a true independent offering enjoyed by the extensive commercial clientele.
And 4 or 5 years from now, there will be a gap at the top of the business due to a director level retirement.
So it's a clear succession plan which is firmly on the agenda here.
Initially, you'll join as an Account Executive, working closely with the MD to support the key clients with servicing work whilst developing your own new business plans.
Learning the leadership role, you'll work towards taking over the running of the branch to coincide with the director exit in a few years.
Managing key clients, driving new business strategy and growing the team will become your day to day.
And that's a pretty predictable road ahead.
So whether you'll be driving to the office in 2025 in the front seat or the back seat, who knows.
What you will know here though is exactly where your career is going.
