Avencia Consulting are currently recruiting on behalf of a specialty Insurer who are looking to hire a Group Reporting Tax Accountant to join on a permanent basis.

The role

Role Overview: As a Tax Accountant within our Group Reporting team, you will play a pivotal role in managing the taxation aspects of our operations in the UK and Ireland, with a focus on Corporation Tax, Indirect Tax (VAT), and employment taxes. Your expertise will ensure compliance with tax regulations and the optimisation of our tax position.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Corporation Tax (UK and Ireland):
    • Prepare and file accurate and timely Corporation Tax returns for the UK and Ireland, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations.
    • Monitor changes in tax laws and assess their impact on the organisation, recommending necessary adjustments to tax strategies.
    • Collaborate with finance and legal teams to ensure tax-efficient structuring of transactions and operations.
  • Indirect Tax (VAT):
    • Manage VAT compliance, including preparation and submission of VAT returns for the UK and Ireland.
    • Stay up-to-date with VAT legislation changes and ensure compliance with VAT regulations.
    • Provide guidance on VAT implications of business activities and transactions.
  • Employment Taxes
    • Stay informed of employment tax developments in relevant tax regulations in the UK and Ireland.
    • Collaborate with HR to ensure the flow of accurate and timely employment tax information to the relevant tax authorities.
  • Financial Reporting and Documentation:
    • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, ensuring accurate reporting of tax provisions.
    • Maintain organised tax records, supporting documentation, and files for audits and compliance purposes.
    • Work with external auditors to provide necessary tax information during audits.
  • Tax Planning and Strategy:
    • Develop and implement tax strategies to optimise the company's tax position, minimise tax liabilities, and maximise tax incentives and credits.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide tax insights for strategic decision-making.
  • Internal Controls and Compliance:
    • Establish and maintain internal controls related to tax accounting and reporting to ensure accuracy and compliance.
    • Conduct periodic reviews and audits to identify and mitigate tax risks.

Skills & experience

  • Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent). or part qualified.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in tax accounting, with a focus on Corporation Tax, Indirect Tax (VAT), and employment taxes.
  • Strong knowledge of tax regulations, tax codes, and accounting principles in the UK and Ireland.
  • Experience with tax software and financial reporting tools.
