Technical Pricing Manager - Actuarial

We have an exciting actuarial pricing opportunity - this business offers a truly diverse range of products. They are in need of a proactive, innovative pricing actuary who can advocate for the underwriting department, and provide a strategic steer with pricing actions/decisions.

This is a senior role within an up and coming key pillar of an established global insurer - their continued success is not dependent on the same driving factors as the London market, this role is non-traditional and the business are very open to what someone can make of it!

The role

The successful candidate will be based in the London or Leeds office and report directly into the UK Underwriting Director.

As the business in the UK grows, they increasingly require enhanced capabilities in pricing and performance oversight of their insurance products. The coordination of these capabilities across the UK will be crucial to achieving long term consistency and profitability. This role will enhance their technical underwriting, providing stronger oversight and streamline the input into the wider group actuarial department for approval.

Key accountabilities

  • Price specific risks according to underwriting guidelines, and support underwriting strategy across the UK business with particular focus on delegated business.
  • Actively build relationships with underwriters to add value to the decision making process with specific attention to Amber and Red classes highlighted within the traffic light report.
  • Provide input and support into the pricing and structure of reinsurance programmes.
  • To validate data requirements to improve future pricing and rating adequacy and ensure that this output is accurate.
  • Discuss current pricing methods and rate monitoring with UK underwriting management.
  • Alongside the UK UW managers (product leaders), assess performance and develop pricing models for all classes of business.
  • Liaise closely with the London-based pricing team to ensure they are fully abreast of all developments across the division.
  • Engage with claims and business analyst on the review of claims losses and performance reports.
  • Work with UK technical manager to deliver pricing requirements for new products, initiatives and distribution methods; liaising with the wider group actuarial department.

Rating Engines & New Product Development

  • Review rating matrices and manuals on selected product lines as requested by underwriting management.
  • Prioritise and project manage the development and implementation of new and existing rating engines.
  • Work with underwriters on new product development.

Skills & experience

  • Detailed knowledge and experience in pricing of specialty insurance products, specifically in casualty classes.
  • Strong capability of implementing integrated pricing models in insurance systems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving ability with a talent for gaining practical insights and actions.
  • Proven ability and drive to develop concepts and lead them through delivery.
  • Team-player and highly collaborative.
